New Orleans Pelicans injury, roster rumors 2016: Anthony Davis injures back in loss to Pacers

Everything is just not going the way the New Orleans Pelicans want it to be, especially last Friday when All-Star forward Anthony Davis suffered a bruised back in a loss to the Pacers.

Davis sustained the injury in the first quarter when he reached the stands trying to save a loose ball.

After leaping over the first row of seats, Davis toppled and needed a few moments to stand up to get back to action.

But after the fall, Davis had a hard time walking and was holding on to his lower back as the officials whistled for a timeout.

The 22-year-old forward left the game shortly and headed to the locker room, never checking back into the game.

Before the Pelicans' defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers last Sunday, a game that Davis missed, head coach Alvin Gentry said their leading scorer and rebounder is continually receiving treatment, The Times-Picayune reported.

"Obviously, he's just really sore," Gentry said, following New Orleans' practice last Saturday, according to the report.

"There's nothing there that's (structurally) damaged just a bruise. We'll just how to see how he feels. He fell really hard and hit on a piece of a chair that got him pretty good really. He took out a whole row there. We'll see how it goes," he added.

Unfortunately, Davis was unable to help the Pelicans who played well without him versus the Clippers but fell short in overtime, 114–111.

It is still uncertain when Davis returns, but the Pelicans need him urgently since the defeat to the Clippers was already their third consecutive loss.

The recent defeat placed New Orleans second to the last in the Western Conference standings with an 11–25 record.

Up next for the Pelicans is a matchup with the only team they are above in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers who are at 8–31.
