The New Orleans Pelicans scored a win last Tuesday over the Minnesota Timberwolves, but had to deal with the loss of guard Eric Gordon who is set to miss four to six weeks because of a broken right finger.

Gordon injured his ring finger in the third quarter of the game against Minnesota and had a successful surgery last Wednesday, ESPN reported.

Before suffering the injury, Gordon tallied 11 points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal in 25 minutes played.

The absence of Gordon is a setback for the Pelicans' offense since he is their fourth leading scorer and has played in all of the team's regular season games this season.

In 41 games (40 starts), the 27-year-old veteran is averaging 14.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and one steal in 33.4 minutes played per contest.

Gordon's recent injury is just one among the numerous health setbacks the Pelicans had to face, with their players getting hurt this season.

Likely stepping up in the absence of Gordon are fellow guards Jrue Holiday, Norris Cole, and Toney Douglas.

In a report on the Pelicans' website, Holiday said he is unaware if Gordon being sidelined will change his role as a reserve.

However he added, "But it's an opportunity for somebody else to step up. Obviously it stinks, because it seems like every year somebody is getting hurt (on the Pelicans' roster), with a pretty big injury. We're going to have to fight through adversity again."

Pelicans big men Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson also expressed their thoughts regarding Gordon's health woe.

Davis said, according to ESPN, that it will be tough not having the veteran shooting guard, but they have to find ways to win, while Anderson is hoping for a speedy recovery.

The Pelicans, who had a slow start to the season, are now going up the standings currently at 14–27, facing the Detroit Pistons at home today, Thursday.
