It seems that the much-anticipated and highly-demanded MacBook Air Retina will not live up to its name without one of Intel's next-generation 14-nanometer Broadwell chips. With the reported shortage of these chips — which is said to be of vital importance since it eliminates the use of a fan while still saving power — the speculated holiday season rollout of the new and improved laptop remains improbable. Taiwanese site Industrial and Commercial Times previously reported that the issue on this was addressed. BGR, however, affirms that a 2015 release is more likely than a looming year-end one. 

Thankfully, The Motley Fool may finally hush the expectations of a December 2014 release. The site says that the Broadwell-U processors, namely the low-power Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors, will all be launched by early spring next year, as stated by Kirk Skaugen, the general manager for Intel's PC Client Group, during his presentation at the Intel investor meeting. The speculations on a spring rollout are then strengthened, not only because of the opportune unveiling of the processors but also because of the word from Intel.  

Latinos Post added that Haswell chips, which are part of the 2014 MacBook Air anatomy, may soon be replaced with Broadwell. Besides, Apple likes to announce new offerings during spring and there doesn't seem to be any reason why it shouldn't include the Retina version of its 12-inch MacBook Air on the list. 

While this may be taking up most of the big picture, Engadget believes that battery life is another concern of the Cupertino-based company when it comes to crafting its Retina-ready MacBook Air. The site elaborated on the matter, saying that injecting stronger backlights into an LCD that renders more pixels entails a heavy-duty graphics processor. With greater power needed, battery life is drained quicker, thus the need for better battery. 

The Retina display was introduced to many of Apple's flagships. As per Latino Post's enumeration, there is the MacBook Pro, the iMac, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPod Touch, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Mini. This only necessitates the release of a Retina MacBook Air, which, after major speculations and rumors, may finally put in an appearance in spring 2015.
