A new "Star Trek" movie is about to be made and it will be surprisingly handled by Quentin Tarantino. The 54-year-old filmmaker just pitched his own idea for the movie that he shared with J.J. Abrams.

According to reports, the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director and Paramount are now looking forward to developing this new installment of the film franchise. In fact, Abrams and Tarantino are eyeing to bring a writers' room together for the film.

But as Abrams is set to direct the last "Star Wars: Episode IX," he could only play as the new "Star Trek" movie's producer. However, as of this writing, Paramount has yet to confirm the news.

Abrams did the 2009 remake of the "Star Trek" movie. He also directed the 2013 "Star Trek Into Darkness." Paramount earlier revealed that it is already planning the fourth film with Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, Captain Kirk's (Chris Pine) father. However, at the time, it has no director yet.

Should the new "Star Trek" film be made, it is expected to continue where Abrams' 2009 film left off. So, it might be quite impossible that Tarantino would have the chance to introduce his own characters, do a different storyline, and create a standalone movie.

As Tarantino is known for making films with his own touch, fans are now intrigued on how he would handle the film. Alternatively, doing a one-off adventure might be the easiest route for the director to helm the movie.

With this, the 2009 movie's characters will remain the same for a possible sequel. This, too, might also mean that the follow-up to Abram's movie has to take a backseat as Tarantino might have new ideas on how to direct the new "Star Trek" film.

To recall, Justin Lin's 2016 "Star Trek Beyond" was well-received by critics. However, it earned the lowest movie earning in the rebooted film's history, raking in only $343.4 million worldwide.
