A Super Bowl-winning piece is returning to the New York Giants as wide receiver Hakeem Nicks re-signed with the team to fill the roster spot left by fellow receiver Victor Cruz who was placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. 

Cruz has not played a single game this season and will undergo surgery to fix the injury, while Nicks played for the Indianapolis Colts in the 2014 season after signing a one-year pact. 

Last season with the Colts, the 27-year-old only had 38 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games played. 

The last time Nicks sported a Colts jersey was in the 2013 season where he struggled and following that year was no longer signed by the team. 

But now, he is given another chance and stated, according to the Giants' official website, "This is home. You know what they say, 'Let a dog roam, he'll find his way home.' They left the backdoor open for me."

He added, "I'm happy to be here, happy to be back in the building. I feel great, I feel hungry. I'm ready to get on that field and make some plays."

Before being signed by the Giants, Nicks has worked out for different teams following his stint with the Colts. 

Since Cruz has not played this season and Nicks will be taking his roster spot, the latter will need to work hard to find playing time with the Giants, relying heavily on the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle when it comes to their receiving department. 

New York is currently at 5–5 and is leading the National Football Conference (NFC) East; under it are the Washington Redskins (4–5), Philadelphia Eagles (4–5), and the Dallas Cowboys (2–7). 

Up next for the Giants will be their bye week, before returning to action on Nov. 29 to take on the Redskins.
