The New York Jets have struggled in their past few games and one of the players who suffered the wrath of their recent setbacks was former first round pick defensive end Quinton Coples, who was waived last Monday. 

Coples was the 16th overall pick by the Jets in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) Draft and is in his fourth season with the team before being waived. 

In a report by ESPN, Jets head coach Todd Bowles said parting ways with Coples was a business decision. 

"We're trying to play guys that want to play and guys that are ready to play. Obviously, along the way, whether we're winning or losing, we have to make business decisions going forward. This was just one of them," Bowles explained. 

Coples addressed the Jets fans in a tweet in which he also wished all the best for the organization. 

The 25-year-old defensive end opened the year as a starter but as the season progressed, his playing time diminished and in 10 games played only has 12 tackles with zero sacks. 

ESPN reported that Bowles plans to replace Coples in the roster but the coach is not revealing any information. 

Despite getting waived, Coples will have the chance to avenge the Jets' decision as he was claimed by the Dolphins last Tuesday, with the two teams facing each other this Sunday. 

Coples joining the Dolphins will reunite him with Mike Tannenbaum, who was the general manager of the Jets when he was drafted. Now, Tannenbaum is with the Dolphins as the team's executive vice president of football operations. 

The Dolphins are needing all the help they can get to end their struggles this season, especially on defense. 

Miami is sitting on the last spot in the American Football Conference (AFC) East with a 4–6 record, while the Jets are just on top of them with a 5–5 record.
