The New York Jets will be having their starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick when they take on the Houston Texans this Sunday despite the latter just coming off a thumb surgery in his left hand. 

Before undergoing the medical procedure, Fitzpatrick played with a torn ligament in his thumb (non-throwing) in their past two games which resulted to a 28–23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and a 22–17 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. 

But even before going through surgery, Fitzpatrick was confident he will be playing against the Texans this Sunday which was his team's last season. 

The 32-year-old missed practice last Wednesday and spoke about the thumb, saying it was more painful after the surgery, ESPN reported.  

Fitzpatrick is also concerned not to get it infected since there are still stitches. For the said reason, he will be wearing a protective glove when they take on the Texans, like he did against the Jaguars and Bills. 

He also said it will take time for the thumb to heal but he will get used to it as the 2015 season continues. 

In the report by ESPN, Fitzpatrick also spoke about the Texans who traded him to New York following the 2014 season. 

Last season while playing for Houston, Fitzpatrick appeared in 12 games having 197 completions for 2,483 yards and 17 touchdowns, also throwing eight interceptions. 

Fitzpatrick admitted that the Texans' decision of trading him is a bit personal but he already moved on from it. 

After sitting out Wednesday's practice, Fitzpatrick was back to work Thursday and according to head coach Todd Bowles, their main passer is ready for the Texans as long as he does not have any setbacks. 

The Jets are currently third in the American Football Conference (AFC) East with a 5–4 record, identical with the Buffalo Bills who are on the second spot. 

Leading the division are the defending champions New England Patriots who are still unbeaten at 9–0, while sitting on the last spot are the Miami Dolphins with a 4–5 record.
