New York Knicks NBA 2015 roster news: Kevin Seraphin agrees to one-year deal

The New York Knicks added another big man to their roster this offseason after agreeing to a one-year, $2.8 million contract (room exception) with free agent center Kevin Seraphin.

Seraphin spent all five of his NBA seasons with the Washington Wizards who traded for him from the Chicago Bulls, the team that originally drafted him 17th overall in 2010.

Last season he played in 79 regular season games as a backup center averaging 6.6 points, and 3.6 rebounds in 15.6 minutes of action per outing.

During their playoff campaign, Seraphin only played in six games with averages of 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

The Wizards advanced to the second-round after beating the Brooklyn Nets, but were later eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks.

Washington was open to the possibility of re-signing Seraphin when the free agency period started last July 1; however, it was not a main priority for the team, The Washington Post reported.

The report added that the 25-year-old center has expressed his desire to play more minutes and he might get that while with the Knicks.

Seraphin will likely be coming off the bench for the Knicks, similar to his role when he was with the Wizards. He will also presumably serve as a backup to center Robin Lopez, who signed with New York as a free agent this offseason from the Portland Trail Blazers.

The addition of the 6-foot-10-inch French national boosted the Knicks frontline with youth because aside from him and Lopez, the Knicks also added power forward Kyle O'Quinn via trade from the Orlando Magic and the 7-foot-1-inch Kristaps Porzingis from Latvia who was their fourth overall pick in this year's draft.

Along with the acquisition of these big men, other notable signings for the Knicks this offseason are veteran shooting guard Arron Afflalo and forward Derrick Williams.

The Knicks are looking forward to a much better campaign next season after finishing with a 17–35 record in the 2014–15 season, the worst season in franchise's history.
