New York Knicks trade rumors 2016: Carmelo Anthony will only leave when he wants to

Carmelo Anthony is considered the franchise player of the New York Knicks despite the rise of rookie Kristaps Porzingis.

Together they make up one of the better forward lines the National Basketball Association (NBA) has to date. But what if at some point Anthony feels he can fit in with other ball clubs? Will the Knicks allow him to walk easily?

That control is not in the hands of the Knicks. With Carmelo Anthony holding a no-trade stipulation, only the scoring forward can say and decide when and if he wants to jump ship. Such was part of the deal he signed with the team before.

It may or may not work to his advantage, but one thing proven is that Anthony's patience gets tested at times. He could at some point consider a change in scenery if the Knicks don't become contenders at some point, although recent development have been something to look at.

The Knicks weren't considered to fare good this season, with only Anthony seen as the player to carry the load. But all that was before Porzingis stepped up and proved to be a gem of a rookie. With that said, the Knicks have been made believers of detractors.

But up to when will Anthony's patience hold? In a previous post, the guard position is indeed something they need to address for the coming playoffs and their future.

Jose Calderon is there but he lacks something. Multiple guards have been mentioned (Brandon Jennings and Jeff Teague) but nothing has happened. But with the NBA trade deadline nearing, the belief is that Jackson or Derek Fisher will eventually come up with something.

The Knicks are in a good position to make the playoffs with the right personnel. Anthony and Porzingis are not enough and a good point guard is likely to stabilize things moving forward.
