Ace Matt Harvey might stick around with the New York Mets for a longer period of time, with him willing to negotiate an extension contract with the club. 

Harvey is under a one-year pact which will earn him a base salary of $4.325 million in the upcoming 2016 season and after that will be arbitration-eligible. 

However, Harvey seems to lean toward staying with the Mets rather than joining a different club once the 2016 season concludes. 

"I think whatever comes up is going to come up. I've never shied away from it. I've never said I wouldn't consider it. But I haven't heard anything considering that," Harvey said, according to ESPN. 

The 26-year-old ace had a stellar 2015 season performing very well for the Mets, bouncing back from a Tommy John surgery he underwent in 2013. 

In 29 regular season games started last season in which he pitched in 189.1 innings, Harvey had a 2.71 earned run average (ERA), 188 strikeouts, and 1.02 walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP).

Harvey closed the regular season with a 13–8 record and continued to pitch for the Mets in the playoffs.

In four postseason starts, Harvey had a 3.04 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 1.09 WHIP in 26.2 innings pitched.  

Overall, Harvey pitched more than 215 innings in the 2015 season, to which he said, according to ESPN, "It's obviously the first time I've ever done that. That's kind of a milestone you want to reach as a starting pitcher is the 200-inning mark."

Because of Harvey's contributions to the Mets specifically in the previous season, a possible discussion between him and the club regarding a contract extension is inevitable. 

The Mets are not expected to let go of a young starting pitcher that continues to improve since joining the club in 2012. 

Last season, Harvey was a key piece for the Mets in their World Series campaign. Unfortunately, they came up short, falling to the Kansas City Royals.
