Fans are already expecting that Google will release new Nexus smartphones with the launch of the full version Android N. However, there is still no confirmation of whom Google will partner with to develop the new iterations. Speculations say that contrary to earlier rumors, HTC will pass up the opportunity and Huawei will be the maker of the Nexus 2016 phones.

According to Yibada, recent reports mention that HTC is planning to focus on making the HTC 10 its identified flagship lineup. This is in part due to the upward trend that the current HTC flagship is having, so the company intends to concentrate first on making the HTC 10 one of the competitive flagships out in the market. If the Taiwan-based company gives its nod into making the new 2016 editions of the Google Nexus, chances are that HTC will be associated with the new Nexus devices, rather than the success of the HTC 10.

Meanwhile, should HTC pass up this opportunity, other candidates are still being considered. Speculations say that one of the top companies that Google is considering is Huawei. Should Huawei be the Nexus 2016 maker, it will be treading on familiar ground, since the China-based tech conglomerate was Google's partner in making the current-gen Nexus 6P flagship. In fact, the continuous success of the Nexus 6P may be one of the factors that Google is considering tapping Huawei as the maker for the Nexus 2016 models.

Aside from the two new Nexus smartphones, there are also supposed leaks that point out that Google will also come out with a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet, to complete the Android N lineup. According to speculations, Asus is still interested to have their own take on the slate (the company is the maker of the original Nexus 7 tablet), and with the recent success of the ZenFone 3 lineup launch, Google may give the company a chance.
