For some time, it was rumored that the Google Nexus 2016 may be a unique hybrid between the Nexus 5 and the Sony Xperia devices, but that may no longer come to pass as a report from NSEAVoice reveals LG has allegedly signed a new 3-year contract with Google, indicating the Nexus 2016 will be developed by their department.

This may come as no surprise given that the Nexus 5 was developed by LG while the Nexus One was handled by HTC. In regards to sales and critical acclaim, the Nexus 5 is regarded as the more successful of the two and it would only be a natural move for Google to invite LG as their new partner in developing their signature phone for the future.

It is pointed out in the report that there is no confirmation coming from LG or Google regarding the contract, although it is also explained that it would be no surprise if such a contract indeed exists. However, this may not entirely rule out the possibility of HTC and Sony still developing their own Nexus devices given how open Google is to other developers.

No matter who develops the Nexus 2016, a report from Yibada claims that the device may be a hybrid of a phone and tablet sporting 4GB RAM and an Nvidia Tegra X1 processor, which would easily make it one of the more powerful devices in the market, particularly for its price range. It is also expected to have a 7-inch screen.

The report also points out that the Nexus 2016 may be revealed or officially launched during the Google I/O, which will take place this coming May. Google has not confirmed this release window and therefore it should still be taken as pure speculation. 

Despite this, Google has been very consistent with their conference and launch dates, similar to Apple, and it is very likely that the month of May will indeed see a new phone released for the public.
