Nexus 5 release date, specs rumors: Motorola or LG to produce next gen phone with 5 inch screen?

Nexus 4

The latest rumor surrounding the Nexus 5 is that the device will be manufactured by Motorola and not by LG.

A leaked photo posted by Tech Tastic shows a device with LG branding, with the website claiming that it was the Nexus 5. However, @evleaks tweeted that the device is the LG Optimus L9 II, which is yet to be released. @evleaks also said the Nexus 5 looks to be a "Motorola handset." @evleaks tweeted: "PSA: that "Nexus 5" is probably the LG Optimus L9 II. Nexus 5 (Nexus 4 v2) looks to be a Motorola handset."

Android and Me's Taylor Wimberly also said that Motorola will be manufacturing a Nexus device. Both @evleaks and Taylor Wimberly are known to be reliable and have a good track record with their predictions about upcoming devices.

The specs and features rumors surrounding the device are contradicting. According to Vietnamese tech site Tinhe.vn, the device is set to follow the LG G2, which features a 5.2 display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The design is slated to be similar to the LG G2, but without buttons on its back. Other rumors suggest it will be like the Nexus 4, with front and back glass panels and thinner bezels.

LG G2

Phandroid suggests that the Nexus 5 will be produced by LG while Motorola produces the refresh of the Nexus 4 (possibly a Nexus 4 2) with additions such as LTE and expanded memory up to 32GB.

The Nexus 5 is expected to be unveiled in October or November, and is expected to pack the latest Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, which is rumored to be released in the 4th quarter.

The successful Nexus 4 is currently available in two versions: 8GB or 16 GB. It comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 4.7 inch display with Corning Gorilla glass 2, 8MP back camera, and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
