The Kansas City chiefs got Patrick Mahomes in the National Football League (NFL) draft last year, and already they are planning to trade off another member of their team. According to the NFL Network, the Chiefs are willing to let go of Alex Smith and they are currently waiting for offers.

The Kansas Chiefs already have prospective trades. It is rumored that Smith will be traded off to either the Cleveland Brown or Arizona Cardinals. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweeted that these two teams will be the perfect place for Smith.

While the rumors hold some veracity because it came from official sources, there are still fans who noted that the announcement's timing may be a little off. The Chiefs are still in the playoffs, after all, and doing a trade in the middle of a playoff season may prove inefficient.

Some also speculate that the Kansas Chiefs may sing a different tune should Smith help lead the team into the Super Bowl, going so far as to say that the Chiefs "don't know for sure what they're going to do yet."

Meanwhile, Mahomes started at the Week 17 game for the Kansas Chiefs, performing for 22-of-35 for 284 yards and no touchdowns. The player also did one interception which helped in the Kansas Chiefs' 27-24 win against the Denver Broncos.

Smith was acquired by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, back when John Dorsey was still general manager of the team. Dorsey acquired Smith from the San Francisco 49ers.

Dorsey is currently the manager of the Cleveland Browns.

There are other NFL rumors this season, but the news about Smith seems to be the most important and the most likely to happen.

Readers are reminded that these are trade rumors for the current season of the NFL.
