Nintendo Switch is giving its hit gaming console a unique makeover and upgrade with new Nintendo Labo.

The new kit teaches kids and kids at heart to fuel their artistic side with do-it-yourself Nintendo Labo sets. Basically made up of cardboard pieces, players can put the kit together to re-invent their Nintendo Switch.

Available in two sets -- Variety Kit and Robot Kit -- users can hold a recital using a 13-key piano set, catch a fish with a fishing pole, join a race with a motorbike, and trump up the place with a robot.

The sets come with step-by-step instructions to guide users through the intricate process of making their Nintendo Labo.

Interestingly, when added to the gaming console itself, the cardboard pieces power up and act like their real-life counterparts. The newly-installed accessories can then be used to control the Switch in a number of mini games. Suddenly, the Nintendo Switch becomes a mini arcade.

According to Nintendo, users could even play around with the so-called Toy Cons to invent their own Labo creations. It is yet unsure whether the kits could really be used for purposes other than announced, but it sure would be exciting to bring out everyone's inventor side.

The company also encourages users to be creative with the cardboard pieces by decorating them with paint, stickers, color, and various designs.

"Labo is unlike anything we've done before," says Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime of the new console upgrade.

Nintendo Labo is slated to hit retails stores on April 20 in the US and Australia and April 27 in Europe. The Variety Kit will cost $70 and the Robot Kit $80. Players can put in another $10 for the customization set, which includes stickers, stencils, and colored tape.

Those interested to try out Nintendo Labo before its launch can do so in separate hands-on events in New York in February and San Francisco in March.
