Nintendo Miitomo release date: Could app be a means to an end?
Nintendo Miitomo is coming out on March 2016, and users are wondering whether the upcoming mobile app is Nintendo's gateway to other experiences.
According to Japanese Newspaper Mainichi, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed a March release date for the mobile application Miitomo. The Nintendo president failed to mention a specific date for the launch and a price point for the application, although users are expecting it to be available for free.
Miitomo is a new mobile application being launched by Nintendo that allows users to talk to each other with avatars that the developers are calling "Miis." It's not really a game per se, but an interactive social network where users can communicate in a fun and creative way.
Using the Nintendo Wii U, gamers can take their Mii customisation up a notch by using the console's camera to take a photo of themselves and then base the look of the Mii off that image. "Communicating with friends who actually look like your friends in real life is a distinctly different feeling from text-based communication," CEO of Nintendo's partner DeNA Isao Moriyasu told iDigital Times.
Nintendo is working alongside DeNA to create this mobile application that gives users the ability to safely and comfortably share information with each other. According to the developer, after creating a Mii or importing one from their Wii U consoles, users are then given a set of questions to answer which will be a starting point for conversations in the community.
There is very little expressed confidence to this venture by Nintendo, and many users are analysing whether this is Nintendo's move to a bigger endgame. The Gospel Herald shares that although there is nothing much new to Miitomo, as other social media websites already allow sharing of information in relatively safe online environments, this could be a move by the company to push for faster information sharing on news from the company about their consoles or games.
Miitomo is rumoured to have versions for the Apple and Android OS also in development.
