One of the most successful launches of Nintendo is its amiibo lineup, and players and fans of the figures also hope that the company will bring amiibo support to the upcoming NX console.

The NX is reportedly Nintendo's next-gen console system. Although the company has decided to keep mum on the details surrounding the upcoming console, pundits in the gaming industry say that the NX will be a company home-grown system. According to iDigital Times, it will not be Android-based, and most probably will not come with virtual reality support. The NX may also come with mobile platform connectivity, as Nintendo has entered into a partnership with DeNA, one of the leading mobile platform game developers in the world. The DeNA partnership came at the same time as the NX announcement.

Many fans also agree that since the NX will not come with virtual reality support, Nintendo will have to come up with another feature to compete with other current-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 both support virtual reality. Although VR gaming is still in its infancy, it would most likely be developed further starting next year, when VR headsets and peripherals such as the Oculus Rift and Vive VR headsets are released for consumers.

This is where the amiibo figurines would come in. It is not surprising that the amiibo lineup is one of the most successful products for Nintendo, since many players are also avid collectors. Although it is still unconfirmed if Nintendo would be featuring backward compatibility on its new console, tying up games with their amiibo figurines on both the Wii U and the upcoming NX would be one of the features unique only to the company. This would undoubtedly help in easing players to the new NX and ultimately, boost Nintendo's sales figures.
