Nintendo has been mum about what the Nintendo NX will be, but the company finds time to discuss what the much-talked-about console won't be—a follow-up to any of its existing consoles.

During an interview with Asahi Shimbun, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima talked a bit more about the Nintendo NX and doused some rumors about it too.

"The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It's a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don't feel it's a pure replacement for the Wii ," he said as quoted by IGN.

"It's something very new. The hardware, the software lineup, all of it is something I'd like to play for the first time myself," Kimishima went on to explain, hinting that the Nintendo NX is something fans have never seen before.

The Nintendo CEO also revealed that although Nintendo NX will be released when the launch titles for it are ready, he emphasized that the company also keeps in mind the perfect timing.

Nintendo knows that developers like to release titles on certain seasons or holidays such as spring, summer and Christmas to ensure better sales performance.

"As such, it's not simply a question of when the hardware's ready; rather, we need to ensure our software lineup is also in a good place," Kimishima explained.

In other related news, Take-Two Interactive, parent company of "GTA 5" developer Rockstar took interest in releasing launch titles for the Nintendo NX.

During the company's financial conference call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said via Dual Shockers that the console presents "opportunities," but he stressed that it will depend on "how things pencil out."

The launch of the highly anticipated Nintendo NX was officially delayed from holiday 2016 to March next year.
