It is now official that the much-rumored Nintendo NX will launch next year, as early as March.

According to BBC, the March 2017 scheduled launch of the new NX console is already a secondary date. Apparently, the Nintendo NX is supposed to launch later this year. As per research company IHS's director of games, Pier Harding-Rolls, the delay could be on the assembly end, even down to the games list. "Ideally, they would have preferred to launch in 2016 to catch the holiday shopping season," Harding-Rolls told the news website.

Meanwhile, as far as confirmed details go, only the scheduled release period is known to date. Nintendo continues to be mum on how the NX console will be different from other systems already available in the market. Previous speculations have said that the Nintendo NX will be a combination of mobile hand-held and home console system.

The news about the Nintendo NX couldn't have come at a better time. According to The Wall Street Journal, although Nintendo continues to be solvent, the Kyoto-based videogame giant revealed that net profit for its fiscal year (ending in March) is on a slump, dropping to 61% from ¥16.5 billion ($148 million). Revenue figures are also down, falling as much as 8% to ¥504.5 billion.

The financial industry observer quoted Serkan Toto, an industry consultant in Tokyo, saying that "Nintendo will continue to be in trouble because it has no big moneymaker coming for now."

Aside from the release period of the new NX console, Nintendo also announced that it is focusing more on mobile games, releasing as much as four games this year. In addition, there are also other mobile-based apps waiting for development, two of them based on Nintendo's franchises "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem."

The Nintendo NX is also expected to debut with a new "The Legend of Zelda" game.
