Nintendo NX release date: New console's 2016 launch would be a 'mistake'

Nintendo's complete line of gaming consoles soon to be joined by Nintendo NXnintendo.co.jp

Nintendo NX is believed to be the next big thing in gaming but this is not the case for the folks over at the analyst firm DFC, who believe that the console's 2016 outing "would be a mistake under any scenario."

The group reaffirms that the Nintendo NX will not see success in the market "until late 2017." They, however, posed a caveat that their stand on the matter is subject to change. There's so much to learn about the console and DFC takes that into account.

"Of course, our perception is likely to evolve as more details around price points and launch dates become available, but 2016 is looking to be a record year for the game industry," DFC said (via MCV UK), recalling how the Sony beat up Microsoft and Nintendo in the gaming console category this year and how that could happen again.

"Going forward, DFC believes that the potential launch of a new Nintendo system as well as new VR devices, especially the PlayStation VR will have a negative impact on the Xbox One and Wii U," the analyst group further predicted of the Nintendo NX release.

At the moment, there's still lack of Nintendo NX news regarding its specs and release date. Fans have only been resorting to leaks that hint of a two-component gaming machine – one serves as the main console and the other is handheld and portable but can be connected.

Contrary to DFC's forecast, the Nintendo NX is believed to make a splash this year. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo will sell 30 million units. He, however, stated that the device will be ready by 2017 and not this year.

If it will be made available next year, Pachter's reflect DFC's report as far as how the timing of the release can dictate the success of console. Up to now, fans wait for the Nintendo NX release date announcement. But the general consensus for now is that it will come out in July 2016.
