Rumors and leaks revolving the Nintendo NX suggest that that the company intends to go old school and use cartridges instead of optical discs. It is also circulated that fans might experience a big reveal of the upcoming console this month.

This is not the first time that the community heard about the cartridge rumor. The most recent one came from a report from The Wall Street Journal, claiming that their sources have confirmed that cartridges will be the medium to be used for the Nintendo NX, WCCFTech reported.

Accordingly, since the company is targeting a wider audience compared other video game console manufacturers, using the hard-shelled cartridge will be more appealing for the parents of the kids who will use them. It will be more durable and will last longer compared to the common disc.

Some might argue that the there is a big difference when it comes to the capacity. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One disc can accommodate up to 50GB worth of data and the cartridges will not definitely hold that much, but that is with the old technology. The MicroSD card is already offering up to 250GB storage space for a very small package, so the technology is here already.

Fans are also speculating that the Nintendo NX could be revealed during the Tokyo Game Show 2016, which will be happening from Sept. 15 to 18. Many see this as the perfect opportunity for the company, a home court advantage.

Meanwhile, several rendered images of the console are popping online again. One came from user called thechunkygeek, while another one was from a Japanese website called the BigGlobe. These are only graphical representations based on the rumors that have been going around the gaming community.

Nintendo has not released any additional information with regards to their NX video game console aside from the March 2017 release date.
