While Nintendo has yet to announce details about its next-gen platform, speculations have already surfaced online about the much-anticipated NX system. The latest rumors suggest that the gaming industry giant had to re-assess its production target and tone it down to more realistic numbers.

In a post by DigiTimes, the tech industry insider stated that Nintendo scheduled the NX platform to enter mass production by the end of the first quarter next year. In addition, the report also mentioned that the gaming giant targeted up to 20 million units initially but had to scale down its target to 10 to 12 million units, accommodating expectations from suppliers.

Aside from Foxconn Electronics, there were also a number of other components companies such as Pixart Imaging, Delta Technology, and Jentech listed as the rumored suppliers of the Nintendo NX.

While the rumored new target may seem more realistic, a report from WCCFTech, another industry follower closely monitoring the progress of the Nintendo NX, seems to dispute the conservative estimates. The industry follower stated that according to securities analyst Michael Pachter, the Nintendo NX may well sell more than its original 20-million mark. Pachter reportedly said, "Could they sell 30 million? Sure. They could sell enough to make a difference and make a profit."

Meanwhile, fans will have to wait until early next year for confirmed details about the new Nintendo platform as the game publisher has already stated that information about the NX will come out starting 2016. Aside from how many units the company plans to sell, plus the specific release date schedules for global markets, fans will also expect Nintendo to spell out what the NX platform is exactly – speculations place the next-gen system to be a hybrid that will reportedly combine the features of both home consoles and handheld platforms.
