The year 2016 could be a very big year for Nintendo, and a lot of that could hinge on what happens to their new NX console.

Unfortunately, details about the new console are still hard to come by, and Nintendo has been reluctant to release any new information about the upcoming product.

Folks can expect that to change soon.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has yet to attach an official date to when they might formally debut the new console, the belief within the game industry is that it is still expected to be shown off this year, according to N4BB.

June's upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) conference in June may even be Nintendo's target platform for the NX console, so fans should at the very least stay aware of any new developments leading up to that.

As for what fans can actually expect from the Nintendo NX when it makes its debut, such still seems to be a challenge to pin down at this point, although company president Tatsumi Kimishima has indicated that the new product will not be another updated version of the Wii or the Wii U.

Going by Kimishima's words, then fans can probably expect some significant changes being implemented to the NX console.

Interestingly enough, in a recent interview with 4Gamer and as reported on by Siliconera, Koei Tecmo president and CEO Yoichi Erikawa hinted at the possibility that the Nintendo NX might be a home console.

While answering a question about the status of home consoles, Erikawa used the NX as one of her examples that the video game industry is still committed to these machines.

Erikawa's comments don't really confirm anything about the NX, but it does indicate that at least some in the video game industry believe that Nintendo is working on something designed to be in people's homes.

Nintendo is expected to reveal more about the NX console in the coming months.
