The Wall Street Journal just recently reported that Nintendo will be releasing a "Legend of Zelda" game for the smartphone. The report stated that the company is working with another developer called DeNA to work for a new "Legend of Zelda" title. This may be in line with Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima's plans to release two to three new mobile games by 2018.

The report is sourced by "people familiar with the matter," so if proven to be true, "The Legend of Zelda" will have another series under its list of games. The popular franchise has been around for decades, and is one of Nintendo's most iconic games with Link and Zelda being one of their most recognized characters beside Mario and Luigi.

The report did not say anything about the upcoming "Zelda" game for the smartphone. It was also not reported if the games would be purchased as a one-time fee game like the "Super Mario Run" or the free-to-play "Fire Emblem Heroes."

The game is said to appear after the release of the "Animal Crossing" game for the smartphone that will be distributed in the latter half of this year. The game is expected to follow this format of release; however, the sources also mentioned that this could change anytime soon.

With the immense success of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," it is no surprise that Nintendo would look for the possibilities of expanding the series into the smartphone.

So far, Nintendo and DeNA has declined to comment about this report. Fans of the game will still have to wait for an official announcement soon.
