A lot of games owe the depth of its story and even gameplay from ancient history and folklore. "Nioh" is one example of an action role-playing game that fuses modern techniques on video game development and a rich library of human interest, and developers are taking advantage of it as its launch draws near.

The PlayStation exclusive title aims to hype curiosity in the game with the recently-held alpha and beta tests. Those who participated also got a chance to acquire special items. Those who cleared the alpha test gets the Onryoma Helmet, a protective gear sporting demonic horns. Those who cleared the beta test gets the Hinoenma Helmet, which has bat-like wings, Gematsu has learned.

It is unclear whether the said equipment will increase the defense of the character or will be for mere aesthetics, but that is something that will be discovered once the official release is done. Furthermore, Japanese developer Koei Tecmo has introduced a mechanism called "Appearance Copy" which functions like a Transmogrify command in other MMORPGs without affecting the in-game stats of the player.

In other related news, a PlayStation blog post details the hardware support it will give to "Nioh", depending on whether the gamer has the regular PS4 or the upgraded PS4 Pro. PS4 support will have three available options, while the PS4 Pro support has four. The difference in the modes is what the gamer would like to focus on, whether it is the cinematic view of the game, the increased frame rate, or a little bit of both.

"Nioh" is based on 16th century Japan, where the land is thrown into an era of civil war. The player will play the role of a blonde-haired swordsman named William, traversing through dangerous locations infested with demons known as the Yokai. Despite being compared to the title "Dark Souls," the game boasts an original story with gameplay the player can adjust basing on gamer preference.

The game is already available for pre-order and will hit the stores on Feb. 7, 2017.
