Owners of some Motorola devices would not see a 5.0 Lollipop update on their phones. Rather, they would jump straight into the most recent 5.1 release. 

On a Google+ post, Motorola's David Schuster said that the recent release of the newest update for Android Lollipop, with all its accruements and upgrades, prompted the move.

"As some of you might know, we've been testing Lollipop 5.0.2 upgrades on Moto X (1st Gen), Moto E (1st Gen) and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen) in several regions," he said.  

Schuster added, "In parallel we have started testing Lollipop 5.1 which was recently released by Google. Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1." 

There are no definite details yet on how the update from KitKat to Lollipop will roll out for the models, or if Motorola plans to release an update for the operating system first on one device and wait for feedback. The new 5.1 update for the Android Lollipop has only been recently released, and it might take some time for different companies to check their newest OS builds, especially if they try to add a custom layer of software on the stock OS. 

Moreover, Motorola has been known to apply a slow but sure approach in terms of software updates to its devices. It applies its own custom layer on top of Google Android, but tests and vets the updates thoroughly, letting the platform go into its paces before finally releasing the upgrades. 

The first-generation Moto X was unveiled two years ago, and both the first-gen Moto E and the Moto G LTE, also known as Moto G Ferrari, were launched last year. All three came with Android KitKat 4.4.2 and were upgradeable to the Android 4.4.4 update.
