Nokia 2016 release rumors: Nokia developing new Android Nougat-run flagships?

Rumor has it that Nokia will again join the smartphone wars, this time coming out with Android-run flagships.Facebook

Nokia may be gearing up for a major comeback this year. Speculations suggest that the company is looking to release at least two Android Nougat-run flagships before 2016 ends.

According to Nokia Poweruser, some trusted yet unnamed sources have told the industry follower that Nokia plans to come out with at least two flagship iterations. A specific release period is unclear. However, since the two flagships are supposed to come out with Android Nougat right out of their boxes, it can be expected that the rollout date will be towards the end of 2016, but extensive testing and beta prototypes may delay the announcement until the early months of 2017.

The same sources also told the observer that the two new Nokia flagships will follow some features that are already common for recent flagship releases. Much like how other tech makers released their recent flagships, Nokia will have an iteration with a 5.2-inch display, while a larger one will feature a 5.5-inch screen. While specs details are unclear, it can be expected that the flagships will have QHD resolution at the most.

Meanwhile, it is said that Nokia will also capitalize on being known for its phones' tough and sturdy construction and will feature an all-metal build – possibly aluminum – for the new flagships, with an additional IP68 rating for dust- and water-proof features. Under the hood, the flagships can be expected to sport top-tier specs like the latest processor from either Intel or Qualcomm, and at least 4GB of RAM; Nokia may also decide to offer a full lineup and widen the range with a number of RAM/storage options, 3GB and 32GB being the minimum RAM and onboard storage capacities.

Although the industry observer say that the information comes from trusted sources though, fans should still take them as hearsay in the meantime. Nokia has yet to confirm details for its future lineup launches.
