The rumored Nokia 9 smartphone is expected to be the next flagship of HMD Global this year, following the launch of Nokia 8. It is not certain how the upcoming handset will improve over its predecessor, but according to the latest reports, the Nokia 9 will impress the public with its five camera sensors.

The scoop regarding the five camera build of the Nokia 9 came from the Chinese social networking site Baidu, wherein a user posted the render of what appears to be Nokia's 2018 flagship smartphone. The leak suggests that the handset cover has seven holes reserved for camera functions, with three holes intended for the camera lenses and the other two for LED flash.

It is not specified how the five holes dedicated for the camera lenses will be distributed on the front and rear panels. The most likely scenario is that the front side will feature a two-lens camera, while the back panel will have another dual-lens setup plus an extra single lens. According to Tech Radar, no other premium phones sport four camera lenses, with the rear and front-facing snappers having two lenses each. The upcoming Nokia 9 might be attempting to lead in the camera phone race by going for more than four camera lenses.

Meanwhile, Slash Gear reported that the upcoming 2018 Nokia flagship could feature a technology similar to its rounded OZO camera. The Finnish tech firm is said to adapt the multi-lens camera system of OZO into a smaller smartphone form factor. To note, Nokia's OZO camera has eight camera lenses, and the Nokia 9 could borrow some features from it .This information reportedly came from one of HMD Global's manufacturing partners, Foxconn, as the two companies are rumored to have already developed a test unit to determine if such device can be mass-produced for a possible 2018 release date.

The Nokia 9 is expected to be among the first premium smartphones of the year to receive Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 845. More details will be confirmed soon as HMD Global goes to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona on the last week of February, presenting its next lineup of devices, including the Nokia 9.
