Running back Trent Richardson is left without a team after being one of the players cut by the Oakland Raiders to comply with the National Football League's (NFL) deadline for the first roster cut. 

The NFL had a deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 75 players and Richardson leads the pack of released players for the Raiders. 

Richardson was the third overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft but struggled in his time with the team that lasted for more than one season. 

The Browns traded him to the Indianapolis Colts where he played for the past two seasons (2013 and 2014) before being waived last March. 

Oakland signed the 25-year-old running back to a two-year contract with a guaranteed $600,000, but he started their training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list because of pneumonia, ESPN reported. 

In their past three preseason games which only include one win, Richardson had 18 carries but only rushed for 42 yards. 

Richardson played in 46 regular season games and is averaging only 3.3 yards per carry in his three seasons in the NFL. 

Along with Richardson, wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins was also released by the Raiders because they are already stacked at the position. 

Thompkins was claimed off waivers by the Raiders last season from the New England Patriots and he played in 12 games having 15 receptions for 209 yards. 

Besides the two, undrafted rookies quarterback Cody Fajardo and wide receiver Josh Harper were also waived by the Raiders in their first team cuts. 

Wide receiver and return specialist Trindon Holliday and punter Steven Clark were also among the players released by Oakland. 

The Raiders, who are looking for their second win in the 2015 preseason, still have one more game and it will be on the road against last season's runners-ups and 2013 NFL champions the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders will then open their season hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 13.
