British cyclist Chris Hoy claimed his fifth Olympic gold on Day 6, setting a world record in the team sprint event. In the women's event, Germany's team won the gold after the British favourites were disqualified for an illegal takeover.

American swimmer Michael Phelps won his 20th Olympic medal on Thursday - his 16th gold - winning his third consecutive 200-metre individual medley title. His teammate Ryan Lochte, already a double-gold winner here, took silver. Earlier, Lochte settled for bronze in the men's 200-metre backstroke while his teammate Tyler Clary stormed to victory.

In the women's 200-metre breaststroke, America's Rebecca Soni broke her own world record to win the gold medal. But Holland's Ranomi Kromo-wid-jojo broke the American winning streak by winning the women's 100-metre freestyle final.

The USA's Gabrielle Douglas won the all-round women's gymnastics title. Italy's female fencers added team gold to the three individual golds they won last weekend. And Germany's Dimitri Ovt-charov won Europe's first table tennis medal in 12 years when he claimed bronze. China has won every table tennis gold medal so far.

And to control expected large crowds Friday and Saturday, Westfield shopping centre will only be open for ticket holders and accredited participants. This is Europe's largest indoor mall, and it's located on the edge of Olympic Park.

At the end of Day 6, China and the USA are neck and neck at the top of the medals chart - both countries have 18 gold medals. Korea is still in third place, while on Thursday Great Britain surged up from 12th place to fifth.

Athletics kicks off in London on Friday with the first track and field medals up for grabs. Medals will also be awarded in swimming, cycling, rowing, badminton, trampoline, archery, shooting, judo, weightlifting and fencing.
