The season 5 premiere of "Once Upon a Time" is almost here, and as a preview for the first episode of the season, the hit ABC show has released new photos featuring brand new characters coming to the series. 

The photos posted on Entertainment Weekly show the men of Camelot along with "Brave" princess Merida. One photo features King Arthur (Liam Garrigan), Percival (Andrew Jenkins) and Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) staring at Excalibur, while two stills show Merida (Amy Manson) in her blue gown. Another photo shows Emma (Jennifer Morrison) making her way through the forest.

Emma is also seen talking to Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), who looks as though he is encouraging her to embrace her dark side. The last time fans saw Rumplestiltskin, he was in a coma and looked as if he was unlikely to survive, but the premiere will address how he comes to be alright and how he and Emma happen to be together in the forest. 

Speaking to Yahoo!, show creator Adam Horowitz said, "The context of how they're together won't really reveal itself to the fans until they see the premiere. If we're going to have Emma be the Dark One, we're going to dive into Dark One mythology." 

According to the official synopsis for the premiere, immediately after becoming the Dark One, Emma disappears and her parents Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) as well as son Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) must work together to save her, and they have to ask help from an unlikely source — Regina (Lana Parilla), Emma's one-time foe. In the Enchanted Forest, Emma struggles as she looks for Merlin, hoping that he can stop her transformation. Along the way to Camelot, she gets help from Merida as well as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. 

"Once Upon a Time" season 5 premieres on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
