'Once Upon a Time' season 5 spoilers: Someone could save Emma from the dark side in new episodes

 ABC

A reversal of fortune happened at the end of "Once Upon a Time" season 4, when Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) sacrificed her own soul to become the new Dark One to help Evil Queen Regina Mills (Lana Parilla) have the happy ending that she has long been waiting for. Does this mean that Emma's new fate as Storybrooke's villain will last all throughout the next season?

Emma's transformation as the new Dark One could greatly affect everyone in Storybrooke. After all, the Savior has suddenly become the most dangerous character in town. It does not mean, however, that she cannot be pulled back to the right path once again. Zap2it recently posted several inside scoops from series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis, saying that Emma's dark side may possibly not last long.

According to the report, the struggle to bring back Emma to the light will be the main goal of Storybrooke's heroes in the fifth season of "Once Upon a Time," including Emma's son Henry (Jared S. Gilmore), her beloved Robin Hood (Colin O' Donoghue), her parents Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), as well as Regina herself.

The creators also shared that while the writers of the show are taking their much needed break, they have already talked about the central theme for "Once Upon a Time" season 5a.

"We start with a theme we want to explore and go from there," Horowitz stated. "We've done our mini-camp. We actually have the next month so we like to sit for the next month and ask 'Does it still hold true?'"

Also, the creators revealed that in order to remove the darkness from Emma, her loved ones should find Merlin the sorcerer first. However, they did not mention who would fill in the role of the legendary wizard from King Arthur's court.

"Once Upon a Time" is expected to return in September.
