'Once Upon a Time' season 6 finale spoilers: Henry to save Emma and Storybrooke from the curse?
Emma (Jennifer Morrison) finally tied the knot with Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) in the previous episode of "Once Upon a Time" season 6, but danger keeps on finding her. This could mean she may still be far from her happy ever after even if the two-hour season finale is right around the corner.
The penultimate episode shows that a new curse is about to cover Emma and the entire Storybrooke, which means that the heroes will be facing another major battle in the show's upcoming season finale.
According to the synopsis of the episodes called "The Final Battle Part 1 & 2," Emma's son Henry Mills (Jared S. Gilmore) wakes up to a cursed Storybrooke and learns that his mother is detained in a mental hospital. He also learns that the Black Fairy (Jaime Murray) is the town's new mayor. This prompts Henry to try and help Emma recover her memory.
On the other hand, Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) does everything to learn what really happened to Belle (Emilie de Ravin).
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz tease about the part that Rumple will play in the upcoming battle.
"I will say the Final Battle will be thematic for everybody and that Rumple, as a man who is a difficult man to love, I think he will have a very difficult choice to make again," Kitsis states.
The series bosses also reveal that the upcoming curse will not be the same as all the other curses that they have tackled in the past. "We're well aware that we've done a curse occasionally in the past on the show, but this time we're trying to do a little twist on it," Horowitz states.
Meanwhile, the finale episode of "Once Upon a Time" season 6 also marks Emma's swan song after Morrison announced that she will no longer return in the series if ABC will extend the show for season 7.
On Instagram, the actress shares she wants to move on from the show after season 6.
"As I reached the end of my 6 year contract on ONCE UPON A TIME, I was faced with a significant decision. ABC, Eddy Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz very generously invited me to continue as a series regular. After very careful consideration, I have decided that creatively and personally, it is time for me to move on," the actress states.
Other actors are also expected to exit the show after the airing of the two-hour season 6 finale of "Once Upon a Time" on ABC on Sunday, May 14, at 8 p.m. EDT.
