'Once Upon a Time' season 6 spoilers: Lana Parrilla talks about Regina's emotional state

ABC

Regina's dark side resurfaced in the fifth season finale of "Once Upon a Time," but it will have a different effect on Lana Parrilla's character as she deals with two separate personalities when ABC's fairy tale drama returns for season 6.

In the season 5 finale, the Evil Queen revealed that there was an ongoing internal battle within Regina as she persistently attempted to defeat her dark side for the sake of her Storybrooke friends. But while Regina's good side prevailed in the episode, the evil side warned that the war is not yet over and the Evil Queen will succeed.

To explain what the dark side of her character was saying in the fifth season finale, Parrilla told Entertainment Weekly in an interview (video below) that there will be two separate Reginas next season. "The Evil Queen and the hero Regina. So it's gonna be really fun to play both sides in a different way than I have in the previous five seasons 'cause I've always played two sides. She's always been both, but she's never been split," the actress said.

Parrilla also mentioned that the upcoming season of "Once Upon a Time" will also show how Regina will continuously deal with the death of Robin Hood (Sean Maguirre). In an interview with TVLine, the actress said that Regina could actually start believing karma because of all the unfortunate things that are happening to her.

"She's done so many terrible things in her life — she's slaughtered villages and hurt so many people — that these two loves [including Daniel] have been taken away from her," the actress said.

In addition, the actress revealed that the Storybrooke heroes will face against old and new enemies next season.

"I think we are going to see some new villains, and some old villains are going to resurface and surprise us in ways that we weren't expecting," the actress said.

"Once Upon a Time" season 6 is expected to premiere this fall.
