The fate of ABC's "Once Upon a Time" remains unclear, but producers promised that the season 6 finale will give some closure for fans.

Speaking to TV Line, co-creator/producer Eddy Kitsis dodged rumors surrounding the show's uncertain fate. Even though he did not explicitly say whether the ABC drama has been renewed or not, he did offer some words of reassurance for "Once Upon a Time" fans.

"We planned this finale from the beginning of the year, so whoever stays and whoever goes... all those questions have already been dealt with," he shared. "The audience does not have to fear [anything feeling] incomplete."

Even if the series gets picked up for another run, there is likely a huge shake up on the cast and storyline. Digital Spy points out that the four main actors: Lana Parrilla (Regina and Evil Queen), Robert Carlyle (Rumple), Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) and Colin O'Donoghue (Hook) have all been in negotiations to renew their contracts.

Many new faces are expected to enter the picture, with most fan-favorites only returning as guests. Despite the major casting changes, the producers stressed that supporting characters like David Nolan (Josh Dallas) and Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) are not going anywhere.

The cast overhaul is part of the studio's effort to reset the series. Aside from steering things in a totally different direction, new faces were added to the fantasy series to make it more attractive for renewal by the network. Part of the big shift includes the introduction of a cynical recluse played by "The Walking Dead" star Andrew West and a gifted 10-year-old portrayed by "Jane the Virgin" child actress Alison Fernandez. Both characters will make their first appearance on the show's finale and continue as series regular if ABC approves a season 7 renewal.

The sixth season of "Once Upon a Time" airs every Sunday night at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
