'One Piece Grand Cruise' news: Straw Hats' fans will have the chance to join the crew with upcoming VR game

Fans of the Shonen Jump anime series "One Piece" will get the chance to join the Straw Hat Pirates in the upcoming PlayStaion virtual reality (VR) video game. The trailer of Bandai Namco's VR video game "One Piece Grand Cruise has been released, and it brings players on board with Monkey D. Luffy and his crew.

The story of the game centers on the player's adventure as he becomes part of the Straw Hat crew. The player will then face different opponents like the Navy, sea monsters, other pirates, and more. The gamer can interact with the other members during their daily lives aboard the Thousand Sunny. The storyline of the game is still unknown if it will follow a specific arc from the anime series or an original plot tailored solely for the VR game.

The trailer video of the game was released on YouTube by Bandai. The player first finds himself in the lawn deck of the Thousand Sunny ship. The first member the player meets is the captain himself, Luffy. The video also features all other Straw Hat members.

The teaser trailer shows a glimpse of the game's gameplay wherein the player operates a cannon to retaliate against engaging Navy ships. The giant squid or kraken Surume also appears in the video attacking the Thousand Sunny. The highlight of the game is the appearance of the infamous Heavenly Yaksha and captain of the Donquixote Pirates, Donquixote Doflamingo. Some signature moves of the Straw Hat members were also revealed in the video like Luffy's Jet Hawk and Sanji's Diable Jambe.

The game will be released in 2018. There is still no official release date announced by Bandai Namco or PlayStation. No information has been released if the game will include other enemies or allies. The video also features only the Thousand Sunny as the game's setting.
