After many months of speculation – eight months to be exact since "One Punch Man" aired its last episode for season 1 — Madhouse Entertainment has finally confirmed that they will be producing a sophomore season for the hit anime.

The studio made the announcement via twitter through the Japanese account @opm_anime, but the post only made the confirmation for the season and not details like release dates and spoilers, Gamespot reported.

The successful anime series first came became successful as a web comic about a superhero named Saitama who is so powerful that he is able to defeat his opponents with a single blow, thus earning him the monicker "One Punch Man."

Meanwhile, because of the scarcity of information about the upcoming season in the past few months, fans of the show have been busy speculating what will happen in season 2 and who Saitama will face when the show returns.

According to rumors, Saitama may lose his powers at some point in season 2 which will make him vulnerable to his opponents. There were rumors that because of this, Saitama may finally have to deal with a loss for the first time.

However, there are those who believe that Saitama will overcome his handicap and face off with powerful enemies like Amai Mask and Garou. There were also speculations that his ally Genos could become an opponent in the upcoming season, although it is unclear if this battle will only be for practice or if Genos will switch sides and become a villain.

Lord Boros — who Saitama already defeated in season 1 — is also expected to make a comeback this season to exact vengeance from the hero.

As for the air date, while it was previously speculated that the second season will come out after the English dubbed version ends in Toonami in October, now it seems more likely that it will come out sometime in 2017 instead.

Another piece of good news is that the series will also release a mobile game by next year, reported Anime News Network.
