OnePlus 2 release date: device to show up earlier than expected

It seems that OnePlus Two, the next in line to the successful OnePlus One smartphone, will be launched sooner than expected. A leaked invite was uncovered by smartphone industry observer and tech site PhoneRadar. The invite apparently shows that the OnePlus 2 will be making its official appearance in Hong Kong on June 28.

Originally, it was thought that the successor of the OnePlus One will be making its way to the consumer market in the third quarter of this year. This timeline has already been confirmed by no less than company co-founder Carl Pei, who replied to tweets by fans asking when the China-based OnePlus will release their new flagship smartphone. In subsequent posts, Pei had also said that reports claiming the OnePlus 2 making an appearance earlier than Q3 have no basis.

However, if the leaked invite is indeed authentic, then fans worldwide can expect a global release of the OnePlus 2 much earlier than expected.

OnePlus made waves in the smartphone industry with its first flagship device, combining high-end specs with a competitive price. In addition, OnePlus also marketed their flagship device on an invite-only basis, making interest in the first device skyrocket.

In terms of specs, it has been speculated that the OnePlus 2 will have significant improvements over the first OnePlus smartphone, and would feature high-end specs like a 5.5-inch 2K display, a Snapdragon 810 chip with 3 GB of RAM, and its very own Oxygen OS. In addition, it is reported to be made available for only $100 more than the original.

Most observers also say that since OnePlus already dropped its invite-only marketing strategy and opted for open sale for the One, they are also hoping that the OnePlus 2 will be made available via retailers and its many fans in the global audience.
