Oneplus 2 vs Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7: How will upcoming flagships compare?

The smartphone war is heating up as next-gen devices are set to be launched later this year, chief among them is the successor to what others touted as the "smartphone killer," the OnePlus One. In addition, it is reported that a new iPhone will be launched this year, as well as the next-in-line in Samsung's successful Note series.

However, Samsung's flagship still remains to be the Galaxy S series, and since the S6 has already made it out in the market, how would Samsung follow up on its success? What would the Galaxy S7 feature against other flagship devices?

Originally scheduled to be released in the latter part of the year, the OnePlus 2 has been confirmed to roll out by July 28. Being branded as a bigger and better version of its previous version, it will carry a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and a 4 GB RAM as partner, which would make it truly a workhorse to be reckoned with. Aside from the souped-up specs under the hood, the upcoming OnePlus device will also reportedly sport a fingerprint scanner and Type-C USB connectivity, seen recently on Apple's new MacBook.

Not much is known about the upcoming Galaxy S smartphone this early in the running and with the S6 lineup only recently launched. However, observers such as tech site TechnoBuffalo and ETNews have reported that the Korea-based company has been making the rounds to test a prototype in secret, and the device will supposedly come out with the new Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is already in the drawing board. Another round of test has Samsung building two variants of the S7, one with the Snapdragon chipset and another with its own Exynos processor.

Apple's next-gen smartphone would also move up the processor ladder, making use of a new A9 or A8x chipset. Indeed, this might be the trend for the Cupertino-based company, since Apple has already sealed the A8's fate by using the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus processor on the updated iPod touch – this might be one signal that Apple is ready for a chipset upgrade on its upcoming mobile devices. Aside from the new processors, the next iPhone will reportedly come in two variants – giving users freedom to choose between a 5.2-inch standard version and a smaller, 4.7-inch one.
