Good news for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users as these smartphones will now be able to support playing Netlfix movies and series in high definition (HD). This could sound like a strange case for some people, but streaming HD videos is one of the factors that the public is looking into before buying a handset. While OnePlus's latest high-end devices are impressive in their own right, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T were launched without HD Netflix support.

Unfortunately, there is a downside when the user decides to have his OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T phone updated to support HD Netflix. As reported by Android Police, OnePlus has confirmed that the tech firm is now rolling out an update program for its 2017 flagship handsets to enable streaming video files in higher resolution. Although, users must keep in mind that having the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T handsets updated for HD video streaming would come with lengthy "security processes."

Users would have to send in their OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T phones to the nearest service centers to enable the HD Netflix streaming. However, this program is covered by the WideVine DRM copyright protection that allows Netflix playback. Thus, OnePlus should perform the necessary hardware update by using a wired connection to an "authenticated" computer.

OnePlus will be the one to answer the shipping costs in receiving and sending back the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones to the users. Although, the users should be patient enough to wait for their HD-enabled handsets within five business days. It appears that the process would need to take this long because of the issues of copyright infringement and film piracy.

Some people could not help but think that the burden of sending back the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T units to service centers would have been avoided if OnePlus already enabled the HD streaming upon the launch of these smartphones last year. Meanwhile, those who own a OnePlus handset older than the 2017 flagships will not be covered by this program.
