OnePlus finally confirmed the release of OnePlus 5 this summer.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer confirmed to The Verge that its next-generation flagship smartphone after the 2016-released OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T is due to be shipped in the market soon.

Previous speculations claimed the company is skipping the number 4 in its product lineup because the number is synonymous to bad luck in the Chinese culture. However, the new report claims that the superstition is not a factor to the naming of the device. Instead, the smartphone developer claims the device could be considered as a homage to the number 5 jersey of former NBA star Robert Horry, since a lot of OnePlus employees can be considered his avid fans.

Other details about the device remain under wraps, but rumors claim that it will feature the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It is also expected to come out with a front-mounted fingerprint sensor just like the OnePlus 3T. However, the new device is rumored to come with a slightly larger 3,600mAh battery compared to the previous 3,400mAh battery.

The device is also expected to come with a dual camera feature, just like some of the market leaders today like the iPhone 7 Plus and the Xiaomi Mi 6. Reports also claim that the upcoming device will feature the same 16-megapixel front camera just like its predecessor.

Some of the other rumored features of the upcoming OnePlus 5 include 6 GB of RAM with 128 GB of memory space, as well as the possible option of 8 GB or RAM with 256 GB internal memory. It might also come with a 5.5-inch screen display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. It might also come with a bezel-less screen just like Samsung Galaxy S8 to make it appear bigger.

More details are expected to be announced by the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer in the coming days.
