The Android 8.0 "Oreo" Open Beta is now available for OnePlus' flagship, the OnePlus 5T.

As promised, OnePlus has rolled out the Android 8.0 "Oreo" open beta for the OnePlus 5T before 2017 ended. According to Tech 2, the OnePlus 5T now runs Android Oreo with the added Dec. 1 security patch.

Several tweaks were also added to the OnePlus 5T's operating system, such as an optimized app shortcut style, the option to upload photos to "Shot on OnePlus," a picture-in-picture or "PIP" mode for multiple video viewing or multitasking, an auto-fill support, smart text selection, and a new Quick Settings design, among few others.

It was previously reported that OnePlus was planning on releasing the update before 2017 ends. OnePlus' official Twitter accounts for the Netherlands and Germany has posted a teaser for the upcoming Android 8.0 "Oreo" Open Beta and added that there will be a surprise for OnePlus 5T users, and they did deliver. The teaser came days after OnePlus launched a stable Android 8.0-based OxygenOS 5 for the 5T.

It was earlier speculated that the Android 8.0 "Oreo" Open Beta would be released sometime this January. There is no news, however, to when the Android 8.0 "Oreo" might be released for the previous models, such as the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

In other news, the OnePlus 5T might get an iteration sometime this January. A video was released by OnePlus on Thursday, Dec. 28 tiled "OnePlus – What's in the Box?" The clip showed random people feeling and guessing a mysterious object inside a white box, with many of them describing the mystery device having a stone/sandstone texture.

This could mean that the OnePlus 5T might get a new sandstone version sometime this January. This is not a far-fetched theory as the original OnePlus One device had a sandstone-textured rear. Check out the video below.

The OnePlus 5T is now available for $632 for the 64-gigabyte (GB) version and $705 for the 128 GB version on Amazon.
