OnePlus 6 release date, specs rumors: To feature LTE mobile data speeds up to 1Gbps

One of the anticipated smartphone flagships arriving this 2018 is the OnePlus 6, which is expected to boast features that could rival those of Apple's iPhone X. While it is true that the 2017 iPhone model has started a trend of putting a notch on the handset's top display, the OnePlus 6 could be on a league of its own by introducing a super-fast Gigabit Long Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity. The latest reports show that the OnePlus 6 will be capable of supporting mobile data speeds up to 1 Gbps.

According to the latest reports, the OnePlus 6 is tipped to support a Cat 16 Gigabit LTE technology that outclasses the LTE feature of the previously-launched mobile handsets. To note, last year's OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T only supports Cat 12 LTE connectivity, and the OnePlus 6 will be the first in the Chinese tech manufacturer to boast Cat 16 LTE. XDA Developers said that the OnePlus 6's Cat 16 LTE connectivity has a download speed limit of 600 Mbps, although this can be brought up further to 1,000 Mbps or 1 Gbps.

The OnePlus 6's superior LTE connectivity is supported by Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile processor, the Snapdragon 845 chipset. The said mobile chip features an integrated X20 LTE modem, which has the capacity to regulate download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps, while the upload speeds can go as high as 150 Mbps. However, the OnePlus 6 is still not capable of handling 5G connection due to the current limitations of the Snapdragon 845. To note, the Snapdragon 845 processor does not include a 5G-compatible modem.

The smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 845, including the OnePlus 6, will stick with 4G network connectivity. If the user is in a country that supports fast 4G network speeds, he can download a movie file in 720p format, which has a size ranging from 2.5 GB to 4 GB, within a matter of seconds, Express UK reported. Although, Qualcomm already mentioned that the Snapdragon X50 chip that supports 5G connectivity is in the works, and it is likely to be launched sometime next year.

OnePlus has already confirmed the arrival of the next-gen OnePlus 6 smartphone before June 30.
