The OnePlus 6 is among the highly anticipated flagship smartphones arriving this year, although the recent scoop that the handset will sport an iPhone X-like notch has caused a commotion online.

Apple has set a new trend with the launch of its latest iPhone model last year, but not all users are a fan of its notch display being used by almost all emerging handsets today. So for those who don't like it, it's good news that the OnePlus 6 will give users an option to remove the notch display and revert to a screen appearance with a more traditional look.

The leaked info that the OnePlus 6 will have the same notch feature at the top display as the iPhone X has sparked a controversy, with some pointing out that OnePlus became a bandwagoner by going with a notch display. To pacify the public's negative reaction, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed through the company's official forum that the OnePlus 6 will have a special feature that shades out the opposite sides of the notch, offering the same usual display.

To note, this OnePlus 6 feature that disables the notch display is the same as the one used by the Huawei P20. Per Lau, OnePlus 6 users will be able to hide the notch using a software. Although, this software feature may not be present by the time of the OnePlus 6's unboxing. The software will be released via future update, which will come after the OnePlus 6 launch in the coming months.

As reported by The Verge, the OnePlus 6 is also expected to boast the Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB of RAM. It was also revealed that the smartphone will use 256GB worth of built-in storage, which is the biggest internal space used for a OnePlus device. The previous OnePlus models only have a maximum 128GB internal storage option. Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

The OnePlus 6 is likely to be announced this June, which is the same month when the previous OnePlus smartphones were launched.
