Open Door provides Bibles to Children's Ministry in China

Learning the Bible is the most basic thing in order to know God, but it must be based on the premise of possessing a Bible. But not everyone in the world can possess a personal Bible, especially in countries where the Christian faith is prohibited.

It is illegal to teach anyone under the age of 18 about the Christian faith in China, and according to statistics, around 500 million youths are in this age group. However, there is a great need for Bibles in an estimated 40,000 Sunday Schools in China, and 400 new schools open every year.

Open Doors, which has been an international ministry to the Persecuted Church for nearly 50 years, is seeking to provide 81,500 Children's Bibles and 918,500 pieces of Sunday School materials to China this year.

Sister Jun is an Open Doors co-worker from a large house church network in China, and is responsible for ministering 400 churches, and overseeing over 1,000 workers - many of them Sunday School teachers - with outreach in three Chinese provinces.

"Thank you for the materials you have provided for us so far, we have also asked to receive Open Doors' Children's Bibles. You know, all over China pastors are asking for this book." Jun says.

"In our area there are 400 house churches, with an average of 50 adults in every church. We have about 100 Sunday Schools right now, with about 25 children in each."

Despite five of the co-workers being sent to jail in the last couple of years, Sister Jun and other Sunday School teachers risk interrogation and prison to teach children the Word. They know that it is against the law to teach children about Jesus, but they will not let this stop them telling others about the life and love of Jesus.

In addition, the majority of children are from unbelieving families; some of the parents do not approve of their children attending Sunday school. So the bible teachers also need wisdom and courage for children ministry.

"Sunday Schools are impacting not only the children but the entire fabric of Chinese society. That is why it is so important we provide them with Children's Bibles and other materials." says Open Doors USA President Dr. Carl Moeller.

Currently it is estimated that between 10,000-25,000 people come to know Christ every day in China. The current productivity of 2 million Bibles a year is far beyond the increasing demand. The Bibles can only be sold in the official Three-Self Church and government sponsored bookstores in some of the large cities. However, the majority of Chinese Christians do not live in the large cities where Bibles are available.

By taking advantage of every avenue to assist the whole Church in China through Bible deliveries, leadership training, prayer support and encouragement, Open Doors seeks to support the continued, solid growth of the world's largest revival.

Today, Open Doors deliver nearly 3 million Bibles, Gospels, Children's Bibles, hymnals, discipleship and teaching materials to Christians behind closed borders each year.
