Whether it be the 4.8 mm-thin R5 or the N3 with its swiveling camera, Chinese manufacturing company Oppo is not a stranger when it comes to coming up with unique designs to corner the smartphone and device markets.

Now, the China-based company seems to be blazing a new trail on unique displays, one opened up by Samsung's Note Edge. However, Oppo will not be churning out phones with curved screens, but rather will offer a unique take on its phone display — bezel-less ones.

With details from a leaked patent application of Oppo, GSMArena reports that the manufacturer may have found a way to create what it deems as a "true edge-to-edge display experience."

The schematics included for the patent shows how the China-based company hopes to come up with a display with slimmer bezels. On the diagram, the patent-pending technology involves a traditional rectangular display laid out with a transparent "special light guide structure" on top of it. In addition, there seems to be a special curve at the end of the colorless overlay that will diffract light in scatters, making the projection extend beyond the actual display and hiding the bezels.

The procedure is the same as what Sharp uses for its Aquos Crystal displays, so Oppo might still have a trick up its sleeve in upgrading the process, hence the patent application. This patent by Oppo was filed on Dec. 19 last year in China and is still being processed.

Leaked photos online may also be one way of confirming Oppo's bezel-less display direction. The images, first published on Chinese news site MyDrivers, show two pictures, both of them imaging a smartphone with no vertical bezels on the sides. The phone also seems to be encased in metallic frames, making it a premium high-end device and allegedly, the successor to Oppo's new flagship Find 7 which was released over a year ago.
