'Orange is the New Black' season 4 release date, plot update: Alex is alive, not dead yet

"Orange is the New Black" season 3 ended with Alex's (Laura Prepon) fate unknown. The character came face to face with Aydin (Juri Henley-Cohn), the henchman working for the drug-lord Kubra (Eyas Younis). It wasn't clear if Alex was killed off but a new post from actress Laura Prepon's Instagram hints that the character will live through season 4.

Prepon's Instagram post shows the actress posing in character with Vause's inmate ID held up for the camera. The actress added the words "excited to get out there and make an awesome season for you guys!" at the bottom of the photo, hinting that the character will live through Aydin's attack.

Of course, if the actress is preparing to shoot scenes for season 4, it goes without saying that the character is still alive. Fans speculate that if she was dead, then they would have used a body double for the corpse since it wouldn't make sense for the studios to pay an actress if she was only going to lie still as a dead body for a few scenes in a single episode.

In a report from Entertainment Weekly, Alex is instead going to be forced by Kubra to kill or extort Judy King (Blair Brown). The report also explains that Alex's life may still be in danger as she has to choose between work and love, indicating that her character will have to go through serious inner struggles through season 4.

According to a report from Vanity Fair, the real-life inspiration for the character of Alex, Catherine Cleary Wolters, is still alive but, as the series has come to show, it is not tied down by the real events that it is based on. The report reveals that Catherine only spent five weeks in prison along with Piper, while in the show they've been in and out for months.

"Orange is the New Black" season 4 has no official release date yet but it is speculated to become available by June 2016.
