Inmate Nicky makes a comeback in "The Orange is the New Black" season 4.Netflix

Viewers will finally learn what happened to Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) in the upcoming season of comedy-drama series "Orange Is the New Black."

Back in season 3, Nicky took the blame for getting heroin inside Litchfield and she was sent to maximum security prison. After the first three episodes, her absence was too noticeable that fans began to wonder when they would ever see the inmate back on the screen.

During the show's 2015 Summer Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour panel, Lyonne told E! News her thoughts on her character's predicament during the last season.

"I thought it was wise to have there be a big consequence for Nicky's playing around with heroin. It can't all be fingering and cookies all the time. There's going to be hell to pay at a certain point for playing with her personal fire."

The actress also said that she was glad the writers decided to steer Nicky's story in the said direction.

"I think it's a good thing to have major characters suffer major consequences. Otherwise, I think it might be a little bit too friendly and it loses some of its bite."

Meanwhile, Michael Harney, who plays correctional officer and counselor Sam Healy, gave fans something to chew on while waiting for the fourth season to air. In an interview with International Business Times, the actor said that he could not give away any of the show's spoilers, but that creator Jenji Kohan would "bring new stuffs to the table."

Harney also touched on his character's blossoming friendship with Red (Kate Mulgrew) and the looming love triangle problems with the wife Katia (Sanja Danilovic).

"There's a lot of depth in the relationship, there's a lot of real. There's a soulfulness there. I don't know what's going to happen with Katia, I don't know what her response will be," Harney said.

Season 4 of "Orange Is the New Black" is slated to be released sometime in 2016.
