The Orlando Magic may be gearing up to make a run at signing Al Horford this coming offseason.

As fans might remember, the Magic just spent the recently concluded trading season by dealing away many of their higher-priced players such as Tobias Harris and Channing Frye.

As much as those moves may have been made to help create a better team, they may have also been done with the intent of offloading as much salary as possible in order to free up a ton of money to sign Horford away from the Atlanta Hawks.

According to a source spoken to by the Sporting News, the Magic reportedly do have interest in signing Horford, and the big man may similarly be intrigued by a potential move to Orlando.

Should Horford move to Orlando, he would join a young roster primed to improve in the years ahead.

Even without Horford, the Magic already have some intriguing players in Aaron Gordon, Nikola Vučević, and the backcourt tandem of Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton. That core alone could constitute a playoff team in the near future, so adding an All-Star big man to the mix could help speed up the improvement even more.

Moving to the Magic could also be a homecoming of sorts for Horford. He famously starred for the University of Florida back in the mid-2000s, even helping the team claim back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

Still, Horford is not a lock to move to the Orlando Magic at this point, and he is having a fairly impressive season for the Hawks right now, so his current team may also be planning to offer him a big contract to come back next season.

Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out for Horford, it certainly looks like this coming offseason will be even more eventful not just for him, but also the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks.
