"Outlander" is still a fresh entry in the TV industry but the show has been successful, all thanks to the chemistry among the characters of the series.

There's no denying that Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, and Caitriona Balfe, who portrays the character Claire, have a strong chemistry when put together in front of TV viewers; but it's also Heughan's relationship with "Outlander" novel series author Diana Gabaldon that has helped propel the show to success.

Gabaldon revealed to Scotland Now that she immediately knew that Heughan would be perfect for the part the moment she saw his audition.

The two exchanged direct messages on Twitter, with Heughan telling her that he loved her book. Gabaldon responded that she was captivated by his acting abilities and from then on, a "mutual admiration" started.

In the interview, the author revealed how she was "fascinated" by Heughan, Balfe, and Tobias Menzies (who plays Frank Randall) and how these actors were able to portray their roles impressively.

The author was very much involved with the series that the production team asked her to visit the set and even asked if she's willing to make a cameo appearance, to which she agreed.

As for what Gabaldon can say about the second season of the show, she only said that she expected for the cast to perform greatly as they did back in season 1.

"Outlander" season 2 will be based on Gabaldon's second book, "Dragonfly in Amber," but will reportedly introduce some of the parts from the later novels.

She also revealed that the second book is a "complex" one, particularly the early parts, and she wasn't sure how the "Outlander" team would pull off a TV adaptation of it. But then the author revealed that the team has done an awesome job and has been able to conquer the challenge "magnificently."

"Outlander" season 2 is definitely a must-watch for fans. However, they still have to be in a waiting game as the official release date has not been announced.
